Erika Sonoda is a fashion designer based in Tokyo.
She taught herself to make clothes as a teenager, while building websites and online communities around fashion and music. The punk and street cultures she lived in during those years remain the foundation of her work.
She earned a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Tsukuba, then majored in couture at Bunka Fashion College. After graduating, she worked as a designer at Itokin Co., Ltd. In London, she interned at fashion studios and completed a professional pattern cutting course at Central Saint Martins.
In 2023, she debuted her first collection at Vancouver Fashion Week.
Today she runs Atë, a small-batch womenswear label made in Tokyo, for women who don't fit a single version of femininity.
苑田エリカは東京を拠点とするファッションデザイナー。
10代で独学の服作りを始め、同じ頃にファッションと音楽をテーマにした複数のウェブサイトやオンラインコミュニティを運営。当時身を置いたパンクやストリートカルチャーが、今も制作の土台にある。
筑波大学でグラフィックデザインを学んだ後、文化服装学院でオートクチュールを専攻。卒業後はイトキン株式会社にデザイナーとして勤務。その後ロンドンに渡り、ファッションスタジオでのインターンを経て、セントラル・セント・マーチンズでパターンカッティングのプロフェッショナルコースを修了。
2023年、バンクーバー・ファッションウィークで初のコレクションを発表。
現在は東京で、一つの女性らしさの枠に収まらない女性のための、少量生産ウィメンズウェアレーベル「Atë（アテ）」を運営。
